fans and FAQs

I love cricket like any other Indian. I am also a fan of Sachin like most of Indian cricket fans (Oh man! what a match that was!). So, I follow cricinfo!
In the 'Ask Steven' column I see some strange questions coming every now-and-then.

Some questions are like:
How many grandfather-father-son combinations have played Test cricket?
Which Test cricketer is nicknamed "Scooter"?

This time a more
wierd question came up:
How many miles or kilometres has Sachin Tendulkar run between the wickets in his international career? .... and the answer is ~535Kms !!!

... and a tribute to the 'God of Cricket' ...

So many videos online ...!!!

I have always been a lazy guy when it comes to reading books. I have been reading some books since years!!! Reading books online is even more difficult for me. I'm more comfortable in watching some videos rather than reading the same matter on books.

I'm seeing that the power of internet is unleashing with so many kinds of education and entertainment materials going video online for people like me. Most of them are on entertainment front, I mean to say that there are so many free movies going online legally, cricket matches on youtube, you can watch some movies online first-day first-show at some minimal cost. But you can also listen and see some of the lectures by people who have excelled in their fields, and lots more. Youtube has been streamlined very well these days.

Most of you might know some of these. I personally like these. Have you observed these things?
1. Movies on Youtube? Even full length bollywood movies for free? Youtube -> channels -> Movies
2. TED Talks – it is filled with awesome lectures.
3. iTunes video podcasting. Free videos on so many things. Yes, you might need to install iTunes.
4. Videolectures.net – another good site to pass time on plethora of things.
5. Many more….

A good blog on Indian current affairs.

I found out this good blog which updates every day on Indian current affairs and also a few International news. It keeps us updated on actual news by filtering out all the junk which is usually found in most news websites.
The only drawback is the news what you see on today's page is of yesterday's news. But I think thats quite OK as long as you get all the required information.

Ramdev baba on Swine Flu

With so many Swine-flue related e-mails flooding my mail account, I thought it would be nice to get rid of the fear which TV channels/emails are inducing in people's mind. Here is one way ...

.

The Yog guru has stated that doing "Pranayam" regularly will make the heart strong that can prevent the virus from infecting the body. He has also stated that there is a plant named "Gilloi" which can be both, a preventive measure as well as cure for Swine Flu as it makes the respiratory and immune system strong.

A rare time stamp

On August 7th 2009...

At 34 minutes and 56 seconds past 12...

the time and date will read...

12:34:56 07/08/09

1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9

This won't happen again for another thousand years !!!

Smiles of success

The first success of all the hardwork by the committed members/volunteers of Smayate Foundation has come true. All the six students of Koonankoppalu government school (adopted by Smayate) who appeared for the SSLC examination have passed with flying colours. It is for the first time that the school has acheived 100% pass percentage!

An article on this is published in "Bangalore Mirror" (Monday, May 18th , 2009: City Pg-4). Link to news here.

RIP Good Times - presentation.

We had a team meeting today which was presented by our division head. He was addressing the global economic slowdown, its impact on our company and a few options of cost cutting which are going to be implemented. Obviously our company is no exception in getting affected by the economic tsunami.
The first slide which was presented had the gist of the presentation.

This slide is copied from a famous presentation given by The Sequioa.
