Anyone who has attended an HR interview would have come across this question -
'so tell me about your strengths and weaknesses'.
'sir, I am a good team member/leader. i am an hard worker. I am ...'
Junk. All Junk. Hardly anyone attending an interview has ever done a real SWOT analysis. nevertheless such questions are still asked.
Yesterday i was watching one video of Shiv Khera in which he was giving a lecture on 'how to convert one's weaknesses into strengths'. he quoted an example of a polio kid who turned into a karate champion. a stammerer who became the richest salesman in a city. God knows if they were ever true. thats ok, all these are good to listen. but, the very first point is, how can i know my weaknesses, my strengths? how do i do myself a SWOT analysis before it is too late? hardly anyone answers this.
most of the books on this subject are also filled with scrap. do these things like converting W to S really happen in life, or it happens for some by mere luck as in case of the stammerer? whatever it is, i personally dont like reading such books. even after reading them, the question still lingers on one's mind - what are MY strengths and weaknesses?
Wow! i think i discovered one. one weakness. i read back this entry once and found out that i am weak in writing articles! are you a good critic?
