I was watching a regional news channel(TV9) yesterday, which is supposed to be a very popular news channel here. it was all the same as it was daily. Politicians under verbal debates, murders, some 'ghotala' cases, cricket etc. and after than there was a special program on discovery of 3 new planets: Ceres, Charon and Xena. the anchor(or what ever you call him, obviously not a news reader!)was telling some figures on how many books to be re-published and all such non-sense stuff. then he started speaking of indian astrology and that it would have to be changed!! thats it. how idiot is he? he then told that astrologers should sit together form new 'panchangas' and we should re-do our 'jataka's and all bull-shit. it was more of a comedy show. i really wonder how can  a news channel be so irresonsible and tell stuff over-looking what is being presented?
   He doesnt know what is the definition of a planet 'graha' in astrology. it is not just an 'english' planet. by definition, any astronomical body which influences man be its cosmic power is a 'graha'. it has been defined that there are only 9 such bodies(nava graha) which inflence us. so, it really doesn't matter to astrology even if there was Uranus, Neptune, Pluto or any other object in our solar system - just because they dont influence us. the 'rahu' and 'ketu' defined in the 'nava grahas' are the ascending and descending nodes of moon(which are not physically present!). lots of things to be known before making any such comments. to tell it in IT terms - one should have the 'domain knowledge' .
   The astronomers are thinking of re-defining the word 'planet'. discussions are going on in Czech Republic, where international astronomical panel is debating what makes a planet.
