Women doesn't deserve freedom..!!??
Reference: Women doesn't deserve freedom..!!?? Pita rakshati kaumare, bharta rakshati youvana, putrah rakshati varddhkye, na stree swatantryam arhati
There are many such quotations like this one in manusmrithi or any other smrithis. They look very much controversial in today's world. I have an opinion on these smrithis. Rules(in smrithis) are written according to the then present situations. a rule which is today may become absurd after some days. You might be familiar to something called 'yuga dharma' like 'kaliyuga dharma'. every yuga has a set of rules. They are applicable to that yuga only. for eg., a scene in ramayana says that the omnipotent, omniscient Rama killed a 'sudra'(dont remember his name), because he was performing penance. Because according to that yuga-dharma, a sudra was not supposed to do that(again controversial!!). He was right as per that yuga's dharma. Now, couldn't valmiki(a sudra himslef!) ignore that petty scene to make his story more appealing? If we go through the recent Kautilya's Arthshastras, there are many such rules which seem ridiculous these days. You may find a judgement which gives a death sentence to a burglary!! Yes, according the above quoted smrithi it says that women have no freedom. which is quite arguable these days. Now, this is controversial to present day's sitiation. There is also a quote which says --- "Sruti Smrithi Purananaam Virodho Yatra Dushyate ! Thathra Shrotam Pramanam thu thayordhaithe Smrithirvara!" (Wherever there appears a conflict between Sruthis (Vedas, Upanishads etc) and the Smritis and Puranas, what is declared in Sruthis must prevail) . As per my knowledge, everyone are equal as per Vedas. Shruthis are what immortal, universal. This is my opinion.

In today's episode in the interesting serial " Engay Brahmanan " in Jaya TV, Cho gives an explanation to the quotation, "Pita Rakshati Kaumare" which is different from what Mr. Kaushik has explained. Women by her very nature needs to be protected and reverred by men for her own well being.

Dont be confident my friend. Every thing in human-understandable language is imperfect. Because it is created by human.
I dont have ecxamples right in my hand now. But, whenevr i get, i'll make it a point that it is brought into your notice. Did you list Astrology by any chance. If it is there, i think i have lot of things to argue for.
one thing is for sure
" puranamityeva na sadhu sarvam,
nachaapi kavyam navamityavadyam" : | |

---what if both of them are wrong at a point?---
well, i dont think vedas can be wrong or atleast we(me) can't brand it false. My philosophy -"say something wrong or false only when you proove it false. don't say against it when you can't proove it wrong!(especially things which you dont know and which most beleive right!!)".
----novels and stories----
vedas don't contain any stories, but tremendous amount of information about almost everything including auyurveda, astronomy, mathematics, surgery and what not. I think it is very bad on some one who hasn't even tried to peep into such a wonderful knowledge base and brand them novels and stories! Yes there are mahakavyas(apart from vedas) which have stories, novels, legends, epics which are said to be the best stories ever. | |

When one person one person or a bunch of people is asked or they volunteerd to write a rules.
As far as past-present is concerned., it is very much relavent now. This is the statement some people quote to justify why we have reached to a male headed families.
and about shruthis and smritis. what if both are wrong in one point of argument.. what would you take..?? | |
